Aerial view of Le Cultivatoire, a 15-hectare farm surrounded by forest in the Périgord

01 — the place

A 15-hectare experimental farm, where a nature-inspired transition farming is being invented.

Hemp, truffle and chestnut are grown here organically. The tree and soil life have organised the system for over thirty years. The place also hosts three research programmes it co-develops.

02 — research

Three programmes, three scientific partners.

Each programme pairs an agronomic question with an academic or cooperative partnership, tested on the place.

Innovate

TERPN

Dry extraction of hemp trichomes by electrostatic and triboelectric separation: a solvent-free, energy-efficient process, an alternative to current extraction methods.

CNRS — Institut Pprime

Regenerate

Mycoclimat

Mobilising mycorrhizal symbiosis to improve the establishment and resilience of trees planted in constrained urban soils (technosols).

INRAE · label InnoTech 2026

Cultivate

Robotique

Tools for the transition: repairability, frugality, electric traction, open data. We are one of three French farms selected to pre-test the Agroboscope programme (CTIFL–CUMA).

03 — regenerative farming

Cultivated biodiversity, living soil and agroforestry.

Three crops in one system: the tree structures the plot, the permanent meadow feeds the soil, the crop benefits from both.

  • Mature agroforestry

Techniques carried out in a mature stand: the trees are old enough here to form a system.

  • Three crops

Hemp, truffle and chestnut grown organically.

  • Seeds & plants

Production of pre-mycorrhized plants by root dipping, for better establishment in constrained soils.

04 — short supply chains

  • Supply chains

Member of the Coopérative Chanvre Périgord: the harvest is sold through short supply chains, within a local network.
